Simon Ferry - I am missing football and ignoring social distancing will make me miss it for longer

Tue 24 Mar 2020

Peterhead midfielder and Open Goal Podcast Star Simon Ferry has called on football fans to ensure the game gets going again as quickly as possible by following the guidelines regarding ‘social distancing’.

The former Celtic, Swindon Town, Portsmouth and Dundee midfielder who recently took on coaching duties at the Blue Toon was appalled with the pictures of large groups gathering and reports of pubs opening at the weekend and he believes that a return to normality will be held up as a result.

Simon said: “I am missing training and playing football. I am also fed up turning on Sky Sports and having no football to watch there either but I am following the advice that has been given.”

“My father in law has an underlying medical condition and is vulnerable so no-one in my family is taking any risks in terms of going out and meeting up. It is just not worth it and everyone needs to understand that now.”

“I follow the guidelines about going out for a run and I kick a ball about with my two children in the back garden and that is it. We all want to do more but we cannot until this passes, and it will not pass when there are people ignoring the social distancing rules."

“The longer people meet up the longer it will be until football is back so it has to stop.”
