Peterhead are interested in midfielder Andrew McCarthy who is presently with Queen of the South.

The 21-year-old started his career at Partick Thistle and made his debut three years ago in a Scottish Cup tie against Formartine United before going on to make over 30 appearances in the Premiership for the Jags.

At the end of last season McCarthy was released by the Firhill club and headed for the Doonhamers where he has featured in nine games with the Blue Toon hoping that he will consider a move north on either a permanent or loan basis.

Balmoor manager Jim McInally said: “We have been aware of Andrew for a while and actually had a look at him last summer. At that time, he wanted to stay full time however he has not played as much as he would have liked.”

“Derek Lyle trains part of the week with Queen of the South and he has told me that if Andrew becomes available, we should have a look. We will have a chat with Allan Johnston at Queen’s and see what his plans are.”
