Peterhead defender Paddy Boyle required 11 stitches to be inserted into an internal gash in his cheek after being caught by the elbow of Raith Rovers’ Jamie Watson in a challenge that should have merited a red card according to Blue Toon boss Jim McInally.

Boyle was substituted after the clash during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat from the Kirkcaldy men and was taken to hospital after the game with Jim saying: “Paddy’s eye was a mess and his jaw had been forced into his cheek by the challenge. He needed stitches to stop the bleeding and he will be unavailable to us until all that clears up.”

“I am not one for wanting players sent off but when someone puts in a challenge like the Raith Rovers player did they should receive a red card and not a yellow.”
