Daniel returns home for Christmas

Thu 26 Dec 2019

Peterhead allowed recently signed winger Danail Ivanov to return home to Bulgaria for Christmas despite the 18-year-old being set to break into manager Jim McInally’s plans.

Ivanov, who helped FC Cherno More Varna become under-19 Champions in his homeland last season, moved to Aberdeen University this summer to study and after training with the Blue Toon he was giving a contract until the end of the season at the end of October.

Daniel told the manager that he wanted to stay in Scotland during the festive period and fight for his first start however the Balmoor boss told him to go home and he will be missing for a fortnight.

Jim explained: “Danail is a young lad living away from home for the first time and I believe that he should go home and check in with his family as it has been a while since he has seen them.”

“It does leave us a body down but I more comfortable with that approach than I am keeping a young lad on his own miles away from home during Christmas for games he may not be involved in.”

“He will come back in January refreshed and ready to prove he can be a senior player in Scotland.
