Peterhead have the chance to leapfrog fifth-placed Airdrie when they complete the first quarter of the League 1 season at home to Ian Murray’s Diamonds.

Blue Toon boss Jim McInally is seeking an improvement after watching his side concede four goals to Montrose in last week’s seven goal thriller at Links Park.

McInally said: “It’s a strange league.”

“From week to week, teams are beating each other and it looks like it is going to be like that as the season progresses.”

“We just need to hang in there because we are still waiting to get a settled team and as much as we will be short of bodies on Saturday, we have got a strong enough squad to deal with injuries and get results.”

“I do think we will improve and it is a hard league to improve in because it is pretty tough.”

A groin injury picked up on the artificial surface at Links Park has ruled out Simon Ferry.

The midfielder joins several of his team-mates on the injury list but McInally feels he has the squad depth to cope.

McInally continued: “Simon will be missing, along with Jack Leitch and Cammy Eadie.”

“Mick Dunlop could be out as well due to a hip problem, which has been ongoing for a few weeks now.”

“He is struggling and Derek Lyle is trying to manage an Achilles injury, although he should be okay to take his place in the squad.”

“But Scott Hooper trained really well this week and he is ready to come back in.”
