Peterhead manager Jim McInally views Tuesday’s Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup tie against Formartine as an opportunity to field players in need of minutes.

The 2016 finalists welcome the Highland League side to Balmoor in round two of the competition.

Formartine enjoyed a fine win over Livingston Colts last week to set up the Aberdeenshire derby and McInally is expecting a tough encounter.

The Blue Toon boss said: “I was delighted Formartine won against Livingston Colts because I am not a lover of the young teams being in the tournament.”

“Not only that, the tie now has a bit of local interest in it so it is one to look forward to.”

“I know we have not got a big squad just now but the fixture allows us the chance to give everybody some game-time.”

“We also have Rory McAllister back from suspension and Aidan Smith will return as well after attending his brother’s wedding.”
