Blue Toon midfielder warns against free-hit Elgin

Peterhead midfielder Scott Brown is warning the Blue Toon to be ready for a pressure-free Elgin if they are to take a step closer to the League 2 title.

The Black and Whites have already missed out on the play-offs but Brown thinks they could pose a bigger threat with the shackles off.

Brown said: “Elgin have nothing to play for so they can go out and play with a freedom that they have probably not had this season.”

“They will be disappointed they have not made the play-offs because I am sure that is what they look at every year.”

“Elgin will want to prove a point and we are there to be shot at. We are the team top of the league so anybody that wants to come and beat us will see that as a scalp.”

“We know we need to match Elgin’s enthusiasm first and foremost and then make sure we play.”

Perhaps there is not too much riding on the outcome for the Borough Briggs team but there is plenty at stake for Peterhead.

After throwing away leads in their last two matches, the Blue Toon have allowed Clyde to cut the gap at the top to four points with three fixtures remaining but Brown remains confident.

The former St Johnstone midfielder said: “Three games left and if we win two of them we are champions.”

“Had we been offered this position at the start of the season, we would have taken it but the way things have worked out in the last couple of games, we need to pick our heads up.”

“We know we need to be better at Elgin.”
