Full-back Noble up for Alloa test

Fri 13 Jan 2017

Steven Noble is confident Peterhead can upset second top Alloa and erase from the memory a painful defeat at the Indodrill Stadium.

The Blue Toon went down 4-0 in Clackmannanshire in their League 1 curtain-raiser in August.

The Balmoor men have, however, gradually improved against the Wasps after two further meetings.

A narrow 1-0 loss in Aberdeenshire saw them bow out of the Scottish Cup, a fortnight before the teams shared two goals in the league.

Left-back Noble said: "On the first day of the season, we took a sore one down there and they also beat us in the Scottish Cup."

"But we showed the last time that we are capable."

"Although it was only a draw, we were the better team that day and the 4-0 result in August was in no way a true reflection of the two teams."

"I feel quite confident that we can go there and win. Our away form has been good so hopefully we can take that into Saturday and get a result."

The trip to Alloa is the latest in a tough run of fixtures for eighth placed Peterhead.

They kicked off the New Year with a win at play-off chasing Brechin before losing a five goal thriller against runaway leaders Livingston.

Blue Toon boss Jim McInally added: "This will be the third time we have faced Alloa in a short space of time."

":Last week was the second time we had played Livingston in quick succession so it is a tough period."

"But we should have a bunch of games coming up against teams nearer us, although we have done well against the sides above us."

"I think we have deserved more than what we have got against Alloa and even in the first game of the season, we saw a lot of the ball."

"But at this stage of the campaign, we need to be more ruthless to start climbing the league."

"We got a lot of plaudits for taking part in the game against Livingston last week but that is not going to keep us in the league so we need to start picking up points."
