Peterhead ready for make or break Saturday

Fri 29 Jul 2016

Topping the group and progressing to the knock-out stage of the Betfred League Cup is Peterhead’s incentive at Dumbarton.

Blue Toon boss Jim McInally said: “The Dundee win has given us a shout and it has made for an interesting day on Saturday.”

Here's the scenario.

An away victory and its cut and dry – Peterhead will definitely go through as winners of Group A.

However, anything less and it could get complicated, with Dundee and Forfar still in the hunt and current leaders East Fife anxiously waiting to learn if their eight points will be enough.

McInally continued: “I was even looking at the prize money and it goes up the higher you finish so it is fantastic that we have a chance of going through as group winners.”

“Everybody wrote us off thinking that was it after losing to East Fife last Saturday but it was typical of us to come back and beat a Premiership team.”

On loan defender Fiacre Kelleher added: “Winning at Dumbarton and topping the section has got to be our aim.”

“We don’t want to go there and try and scrape through on penalties, we want to go and win the match.”

Sunday’s second round draw will include all eight group winners, the four best runners-up and Scotland’s European representatives - Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs.
