First meets second on Saturday as League 2 leaders Montrose welcome Peterhead to Links Park.

Stewart Petrie’s men have a six-point cushion at the top, although the Blue Toon have a couple of games in hand on their title rivals.

Peterhead skipper David McCracken said: “Montrose are sitting there at the top and we still need to gain those points so fair play to them.”

“But we are only focussed on ourselves and we just need to take confidence from the results we have had recently.”

“It will be a good game and each one is massive just now.”

“There are a few fixtures coming up quickly so I think it will be crucial to try and keep the team as settled as possible and stay away from injuries and suspensions.”

Chris Templeman’s stoppage-time header earned Montrose a draw when the teams last met in September, after Jack Leitch’s opener.

The Gable Endies supporters have become accustomed to seeing their team win in recent weeks, however, and they are currently on a 10 league match unbeaten run.

Likewise, Peterhead are in impressive form after winning six of their last seven league games.

Blue Toon boss Jim McInally said: “I have watched a couple of Montrose’s games recently so I know plenty about them and you can see they are feeling confident just now.”

“It is the two form teams in the league that will go head-to-head and I am sure there will be a good crowd.”

“But we are still three games short of the halfway point of the season so we are long, long way away from anything being decided.”
