Peterhead and Montrose draw a blank at Balmoor

Sat 16 Nov 2019

Peterhead stopped Montrose securing their seventh consecutive win with the sides playing out a goalless draw at Balmoor.

Blue Toon manager Jim McInally was left with mixed feelings at his side’s display as he explained: “A draw was the fairest result. It was a very dogged game and whilst the statistics will show that we had more efforts on goal I have to be honest and admit that we did not do enough in the final third.”

“It was not the best of games but I actually enjoyed our defensive performance. We limited a team that was full of confidence after winning six games to very few attempts at our goal and no attempts on target.”

Rory McAllister had the first crack at goal on 18 minutes when he let fly from the edge of the box however his shot was deflected past for a corner.

Liam Callaghan fired wide for the visitors 20 minutes later with McInally’s side coming close right on half-time when Jamie Stevenson’s free-kick brought out a save from Aaron Lennox and Jack Leith saw his effort from the rebound touched wide.

In the early stages of the second half McAllister had a shot charged down and Leitch was onto the loose ball again however Lennox kept the score-line blank.

Masson sent a header over the bad for the Gable Endies with neither side able to break the deadlock before the final whistle blew.

McInally added: “Looking at things positively it was the type of game we would have lost in the past. We would have been frustrated at not scoring and made a mistake late on that would have been punished however seeing things out shows development.”
