Peterhead 2

Raith Rovers 0

Peterhead enjoyed a fine win over high-flying Raith Rovers to end a barren run of form in League 1.

The Blue Toon scored in each half to climb a place to eighth in the table as the Kirkcaldy club were knocked off top spot.

Jack Leitch struck the opener 10 minutes before the interval, beating David McGurn with a rising shot which flew into the top corner.

As Raith chased an equaliser, the woodwork came to the home team’s rescue in the 71st minute, Jack Smith rattling the crossbar with an effort from distance.

However, Peterhead, who had lost four consecutive games, stood firm and they made sure of the points three minutes later when Gary Fraser drilled a low 22 yard shot into the net following a swift break.

In the closing stages, Iain Davidson saw red for the visitors as the Blue Toon registered a first win since August and, in doing so, went some way to avenging two defeats to John McGlynn’s side, in the Betfred Cup and league respectively, earlier in the season.
