Raith dash Blue Toon cup hopes in Kirkcaldy

Tue 23 Jul 2019

Defeat to Raith Rovers ended Peterhead’s chances of advancing in the Betfred Cup.

The Blue Toon, seeking a win to potentially top Group D or be a best runner-up, went down 3-1 in Kirkcaldy.

Kieron Bowie slotted in the opener after just four minutes and he was involved in Rovers’ second midway through the half, playing in Michael Miller who fired into the top corner.

In a need of a response, Aidan Smith went close for Jim McInally’s men just before the interval with a shot which flew wide.

But any hope of a stirring comeback was dashed with 10 minutes remaining when Lewis Allan nodded in a Bowie cross.

There was time for a Peterhead consolation thanks to Ben Armour’s late strike, the substitute netting his first goal since recently joinng the club.
