Late Albion equaliser denies Blue Toon victory

Sat 13 Apr 2019

League 2 leaders Peterhead suffered the agony of conceding a stoppage time goal as Albion Rovers salvaged a draw at Balmoor.

Jack Leitch’s deflected effort had given the Blue Toon the lead but Kevin Harper’s team hit back through a fine Smart Osadolor strike.

The result meant Peterhead’s lead was cut to four points after Clyde scored two late goals at fellow title hopefuls Edinburgh.

Nothing happened in the first half apart from throw-ins, which amounted to 45 by the interval.

But there was action to report in the second period as Peterhead upped the tempo.

Shane Sutherland saw a 50th minute shot headed off the line by Lewis Wilson, with Peter Morrison out of his goal.

However, the Albion goalkeeper did make some fine saves, notably from Jason Brown’s header and then Leitch.

Rory McAllister was introduced from the bench and he played a pivotal role in the Blue Toon’s 64th minute goal.  Scott Brown switched the play superbly and McAllister nodded his cross into the path of Leitch, whose 12 yard shot went in off Gary Phillips.

Osadolor thought he had equalised five minutes later with a back post header, which was well kept out by Greg Fleming.

The warning was there because Osadolor struck in added on time with a fine 22 yard effort after the home team failed to properly clear a throw-in.

Incidentally, the throw-in count ended up at 90.  If only the clock did.
