Peterhead 3

Peterhead endured a frustrating finish against Clyde but it still turned out to be a decent day for the Blue Toon.

The League 2 leaders had to settle for a draw despite leading 3-1 with 18 minutes remaining.

But with Edinburgh suffering defeat at Cowdenbeath, the point meant Jim McInally’s men actually increased their lead at the top of the table.

Willie Gibson gave the visitors the perfect start with a delightful fourth minute free-kick, which found the top corner.

When Paul Willis scored his first Peterhead goal in the 31st minute with a six-yard strike, Clyde’s prospects appeared bleak.

But Danny Lennon’s team got right back in the match at the start of the second half, David Goodwillie sending a close-range header beyond Greg Fleming.

Scott Brown restored the Blue Toon’s two-goal cushion in the 52nd minute by rifling a shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.

Shane Sutherland then hit the crossbar before Clyde were awarded a 72nd minute penalty when Jason Brown handled the ball.

Goodwillie made no mistake from the spot and Scott Banks drew the Bully Wee level six minutes later with a fine 20 yard curling effort.

The match ended 3-3 but Peterhead will reflect on extending their advantage to six points with now four games left.  It had been five and five.
