Off night for Toon as Berwick win for first time since November

Tue 19 Mar 2019

Peterhead conceded two first half goals at Berwick to crash to a first defeat in eight matches in League 2.

Lewis Barr fired Johnny Harvey’s team in front in the 13th minute and Cameron Blues added to their lead on the half hour.

The Blue Toon failed to find a route back into the match and it meant they were unable to extend their lead on title rivals Edinburgh.

Jim McInally’s men scored five on their last visit to Shielfield Park but it was a different story this time round, not helped by the absence of skipper Rory McAllister.

Derek Lyle did start but could not continue after picking up an injury, moments after Barr had smashed a six yard shot past Greg Fleming.

Peterhead were unlucky not to draw level with Brown’s effort which struck the woodwork but they soon found themselves further behind when on loan Livingston midfiedler Blues rifled in Berwick’s second.

There were no further goals after the break as the hosts picked up a first victory since mid November to pull five points clear of basement side Albion Rovers.

A similar points gap remains between Peterhead and Edinburgh as the sides get ready for a key clash at Ainslie Park on Saturday.
