Off-day for Peterhead as Annan run out convincing winners

Sun 27 Jan 2019

Three goals in a mad 15 minutes saw Peterhead crash to a disappointing defeat at Annan.

David Wilson scored early in the second half before Tommy Muir hit a quickfire double.

The result meant the top two changed hands again as Edinburgh picked up a point at Elgin in a six-goal thriller, which swung both ways.

Simon Ferry was not risked on the artificial surface but Jamie Stevenson was fit enough to return in the only change from last week’s win over Berwick.

The teams were still all-square at the interval at a wet Galabank Stadium but the Blue Toon fell behind in the 53rd minute.

Wilson looked up from outside of the box and beat Greg Fleming with a shot, which nestled into the bottom corner.

The home team doubled their lead on the hour, Scott Hooper picking out Muir, who stroked in Annan’s second.

The same two players combined again soon after as Muir sent a header into the net from Hooper’s cross in what was a real off-day for Jim McInally’s men.
