Blue Toon grind out Albion victory to stay second

Peterhead scored two second half goals to pick up three points against Albion Rovers in Coatbridge.

Ryan Dow’s header shortly after the interval and a strike from substitute Russell McLean gave the Blue Toon the victory.

Following last week’s defeat to Clyde, Derek Lyle was preferred ahead of Willie Gibson but the veteran midfielder was required midway through the first half after Rory McAllister picked up an injury.

Cammy Eadie saw a header narrowly miss the target as Albion got to half-time unscathed.

However, the League 2 basement side fell behind four minutes after the restart when Dow nodded in from close range.

McLean then replaced Jamie Stevenson, who suffered a knock, and the big striker made sure of the points in the 71st minute.

The former East Kilbride man lashed a shot beyond Albion’s trialist goalkeeper to keep Peterhead in second spot in the table.
