A late collapse saw Peterhead miss out on the chance to go top of League 2 after Clyde scored twice in the closing stages to revive their own title hopes.

Without hitting the heights, the afternoon had been going to plan for the Blue Toon - Ryan Dow’s goal separating the sides at Balmoor and Edinburgh losing against Stirling Albion.

However, a costly last five minutes scuppered their chances of displacing City as a two-horse title race quickly became three.

Clyde impressed, especially in the second half, with a neat passing style, although they did not create too many openings.

They did, however, force Greg Fleming into a 20th minute save when David Goodwillie raced into the box but his angled shot was well-blocked by the home goalkeeper.

Peterhead took the lead on the half hour mark after a terrible misjudgement from Jordan Stewart.

The Clyde full-back tried to chest back to his goalkeeper but got it horribly wrong as the ball struck the far post, allowing Dow to tap in from close range.

There were not too many chances at either end but the visitors had the lion’s share of the ball, which they circulated well.

The Blue Toon did not intentionally retreat.  Instead, they were pushed back and Clyde were rewarded for their possession in a dramatic finale.

Goodwillie struck a low shot off the near post and substitute Ally Love reacted first to net the rebound.

That was in the 85th minute and Danny Lennon’s team went on to score the winner soon after when Mark Lamont flashed a 14 yard shot inside the far corner.
