Three goals and three points for Peterhead against Elgin

Elgin 0

Peterhead 3

Peterhead ramped up the pressure on Edinburgh City with a fine victory at 10-man Elgin.

Jack Leitch lashed in the opener in the 14th minute and even though Rory McAllister failed to convert a penalty midway through the first half, Ryan Dow’s strike ensured they had a two-goal cushion into the interval.

Leitch scored his second and Peterhead’s third in the closing stages as the Blue Toon cut the gap at the top to three points following Edinburgh’s draw at Berwick.

Leitch’s opener gave Kyle Gourlay no chance, his shot from outside the penalty area flying into the top corner.

Darryl McHardy was sent off for the Borough Briggs team in the 24th minute, picking up a red card for hauling down McAllister and conceding a penalty.

McAllister’s spot-kick was well-saved by Gourlay but Peterhead quickly set about making the most of their numerical advantage and they increased their lead in the 32nd minute through a fine rising effort from Dow.

Leitch completed the scoring with 12 minutes left with a close-range header following Jamie Stevenson’s cross to make it three goals and three points for the visitors.
