Honours even in table-topping League 2 clash

Edinburgh City 1

Peterhead 1

There is no change at the top of League 2 after Peterhead were unable to hold on to their lead at title rivals Edinburgh.

An away win at Ainslie Park would have seen the Blue Toon replace City at the summit.

They were on course to do just that when Jason Brown scored from close range on the hour mark.

But the division’s top scorer Blair Henderson wiped out Peterhead’s lead nine minutes later and that was how the match ended.

The home team finished with 10-men after Andrew Black was sent off with 11 minutes remaining but they held on to stay top.

It still was not a bad point for Jim McInally’s men, who had intended to start with Derek Lyle until the veteran striker picked up an injury in the warm-up.

The match was stalemate until Brown bundled in 15 minutes into the second period.  Edinburgh could not defend a set-piece as Brown stabbed in from just a few yards out.

But back came James McDonaugh’s team and they levelled through Henderson following a swift break.  Former Blue Toon forward Allan Smith provided the assist as Henderson moved on to 21 goals for the season.

Black was dismissed for picking up two yellow cards and although Peterhead substitute Callum Home forced Calum Antel into a fine save in stoppage time, Edinburgh clung on to reigster their first draw of the campaign.
