Peterhead 5

Peterhead chalked up their biggest win of the season with a 5-0 demolition of Berwick Rangers.

The Blue Toon needed just two minutes to open the scoring and it was a sign of things to come for the hosts, who shipped two more before half-time.

Jim McInally’s men added another couple of goals in the second half to round off a superb show at Shielfield Park.

Jack Leitch struck first with a rising shot, which flew past Sean Brennan and into the top corner.

Leitch then turned provider in the 13th minute, laying the ball off for Rory McAllister, who drove a low left shot into the net.

Berwick could not get to grips with their opponents and it was 3-0 in the 36th minute whenJason Brown headed in Jamie Stevenson’s corner.

When Peterhead scored again six minutes after the interval, home boss Johnny Harvey must surely have wanted the full-time whistle as Russell McLean stroked in number four.

That goal came from a set-piece and so did Stevenson’s effort in the 78th minute, the versatile 34 year old rifling a free-kick into the bottom corner to complete the rout.

It was a confidence-boosting performance and result ahead of Tuesday’s table-topping trip to Edinburgh, who still lead the way after a narrow win at Annan.
