Peterhead made their long journey to Annan worthwhile with a fine 3-1 win at Galabank.

Ryan Dow netted his first Blue Toon goal to give the visitors an interval lead, which was doubled by Rory McAllister’s strike in the closing stages.

Tony Wallace scored soon after to reduce the arrears but Jason Brown settled any Peterhead nerves with a late effort.

After their 1-0 victory over Berwick, Peterhead gave a full debut to Paddy Boyle, who came in at full-back to free up Willie Gibson into his more accustomed midfield role.

Simon Ferry was not risked on the artificial surface while Russell McLean took the place of Derek Lyle, who dropped down to the bench.

Dow opened the scoring with a 37th minute header, nodding past John Jamieson from Jack Leitch’s delivery.

The game was still in the balance until McAllister rifled in an 80th minute shot from outside the box, which flashed into the bottom corner.

Wallace quickly pulled one back, glancing in Aidan Smith’s cross, in the hope of setting up a grandstand finish.

But Brown sealed the points with five minutes remaining after the hosts failed to cut out Gibson’s free-kick.

Peterhead stay second, a couple of points adrift of Edinburgh, and they will round off the first quarter of the campaign at home to Elgin next weekend.
