McAllister’s second half goal hands Peterhead narrow victory

Sat 22 Sep 2018

Rory McAllister’s second half goal gave Peterhead a narrow win against a well-organised Berwick.

The Blue Toon captain netted from close range in the 74th minute to decide a scrappy encounter.

The visitors might feel as though they should have taken something, given that they restricted Jim McInally’s men to few opportunities.

Berwick even had by far the best chance, when the game was still goalless, in the 65th minute.

Willie Gibson’s error was pounced upon by Daryl Healy, who broke clear down the right.

Healy squared for Paul Willis but his effort was superbly saved by Greg Fleming and Healy put the follow-up shot into the side-netting.

Peterhead had controlled the contest up until then, without ever testing Sean Brennan, but they made the most of the reprieve with 16 minutes remaining.

Jamie Stevenson, who went closest in the first half with a curling free-kick, found space on the right side of the penalty area and he sent in a low cross, which McAllister converted at the far post.

Not the prettiest but three points all the same.
