One goal enough as Edinburgh capitalise on lacklustre Peterhead

Sat 01 Sep 2018

Peterhead and Edinburgh traded places in League 2 as the Blue Toon lost the match and top spot following a disappointing display.

Blair Henderson headed in the winner early in the second half to end the Buchan team’s unbeaten start.

Barring a double save in the sixth minute to deny Derek Lyle and Jack Leitch, visiting goalkeeper Callum Antell had nothing to do.

Greg Fleming was rarely troubled either, although when he did pull off a fine stop in the 52nd minute to keep out Scott Shepherd’s shot, his team-mates were unable to help him out.

Instead, City kept the ball alive in the penalty area and Graham Taylor crossed for Henderson, who could barely miss from a couple of yards out.

The wind was at Peterhead’s back at this stage and while there was huff and puff, nothing near strong enough to blow Edinburgh’s defence down.

The Blue Toon were having such a bad day that boss Jim McInally decided to haul off Rory McAllister, who had scored in all four matches previous.

Willie Gibson was substituted as well, with the manager sensing either could have seen red as frustration started to get the better of them.

But any player in blue could have got the hook in a performance not in keeping with Peterhead’s previous three victories.
