Peterhead won their third match in a row in League 2 by beating Stirling Albion at Forthbank.

A superb Jamie Stevenson free-kick and a Rory McAllister goal gave the Blue Toon maximum points to keep them at the top of the table on goal difference.

Unchanged from last week’s victory over Clyde, Peterhead started with intent and McAllister struck the crossbar in the sixth minute after Stirling failed to deal with a corner.

The home team might have made more of a good opportunity in the 16th minute when Peter MacDonald sent Kevin Fell away but he dragged his shot wide.

Peterhead’s opener just before half-time was a thing of beauty.

Stevenson curled a stunning 25 yard effort in off the upright to give Calum Ferrie absolutely no chance.

Stirling, yet to register a point so far, introduced last season’s League 2 Player of the Year, Darren Smith, in the second period for his first appearance of the campaign following an injury.

But it was the Blue Toon, who struck in the 64th minute to wrap up the points.

Russell McLean picked out McAllister, who found the net to continue his impressive start to the season by scoring in every league game so far.

Further chances came and went for the visitors in the closing stages but two goals proved more than enough.
