ELGIN 0-1 PETERHEAD

Jason Brown’s second half header extended Peterhead’s winning run to five matches and ensured the League 2 title race would go down to the final day.

The former Inverness Caley Thistle defender scored the only goal at Elgin, who saw their play-off hopes come to an abrupt end.

The play-off route might yet be what the Blue Toon have to settle for after Montrose won again to remain at the top of the table.

Stewart Petrie’s team defeated Stenhousemuir at Ochilview to leave them needing just one more point to be crowned champions.

Peterhead can only keep winning and hope last day nerves kick in for their title rivals.

Brown’s goal kept their bid alive after he nodded in Willie Gibson’s delivery in the 74th minute to settle the match at Borough Briggs.

It was the tenth time the 21 year old had netted this season.

Whether he has one more fixture, or an additional cluster of season-ending games, to add to his tally will be confirmed next weekend.
