PETERHEAD 3-0 CLYDE

By Glenn Moir

Clyde marksman David Goodwillie arrived at Balmoor with 15 goals from his last 15 appearances.

But it was Peterhead striker Russell McLean, who was the headline maker to keep the Blue Toon at the top of League 2 on goal difference.

McLean needed just four minutes to get off the mark and the 19 year old stroked in a penalty in the second period before substitute Rory McAllister completed the scoring.

It was an impressive result and a commanding second half showing against an in-form Clyde, who were overpowered in the end.

McLean prodded in the rebound to give Peterhead the lead, after David McCracken’s volley from Willie Gibson’s corner broke into his path.

Danny Lennon’s side shaded the remainder of the first half and Goodwillie saw a shot smothered by Greg Fleming, who then tipped over a dipping Jordan Stewart free-kick before Barry Cuddihy skewed a back-post effort.

The second half, however, belonged to Peterhead and Allan Smith saw a 12 yard drive deflect behind for a corner in the 59th minute.

From Gibson’s centre, Jason Brown rose highest to plant a header towards the bottom corner but Chris McStay hooked the ball off the line.

A Peterhead second rather than a Clyde comeback look likeliest and they duly doubled their lead in the 68th minute.

Jamie Stevenson was barged over by Stewart and McLean confidently slotted past Kyle Gourlay.

The teenager, after collecting a Scott Brown pass, could have completed his hat-trick when he dragged a shot wide.

McLean had done his bit though and his replacement, McAllister, put the seal on the victory with 11 minutes left after his 14 yard effort deflected in off Mark Lamont.
