STIRLING ALBION 0-1 PETERHEAD

Jamie Stevenson was the goal hero as League 2 leaders Peterhead ended Stirling Albion’s winning run to pull three points ahead at the top.

Stevenson’s shot from outside the box in the second half was the decisive moment at a dreich Forthbank.

There were a couple of big scares for the Blue Toon, Darren Smith twice rattling the woodwork. The Binos top scorer was denied by the post in the first period and then the crossbar after the interval.

In-form Peterhead forward Russelll McLean was forced off midway through the first half and his replacement, Aaron Norris, passed up a good chance to make the breakthrough moments later, failing to connect from close range.

But Stevenson struck in the 61st minute with a fine effort, which gave Cammy Binnie absolutely no chance.

Stirling, after five straight wins, could not come up with a reply as the visiting defence held firm.

The Blue Toon victory was made more significant with Montrose’s match at bottom of the table Cowdenbeath postponed.
