Peterhead were forced to settle for only their second draw of the season after they were held by Edinburgh at Ainslie Park.

There were no goals in the capital as the Blue Toon slipped six points adrift of League 2 leaders Montrose, who scored late to defeat Stenhousemuir, Jamie Redman’s header creating daylight between the top two.

After losing to the Gable Endies last weekend, boss Jim McInally made three changes to his starting line-up.

Newcomer Chris Johnston, 24 hours aftet signing on loan from Dumbarton, was pitched straight in while Allan Smith and Jamie Stevenson were also recalled.

Jordon Brown, Russell McLean and Simon Ferry dropped down to the bench, although all three were introduced in the second half.

Johnston went close to scoring on his debut with an angled shot, which fizzed wide in the 25th minute, and Scott Brown saw a rising effort go just over moments later.

Veteran City striker Craig Beattie, who came on as a first half substitute, failed to direct a six yard header on target in the 65th minute before Graham Taylor blasted a 14 yard drive wide.

The deadlock would not be broken, however, as Peterhead played out their first 0-0 since March last year.
