A third away win in a row saw ruthless Peterhead defeat Clyde at Broadwood in League 2.

The teams were level at the break but the Blue Toon turned on the style in the second period by scoring three times in a nine minute spell.

That made for a happy return to Cumbernauld for Jim McInally’s men, who were back there for the first time since their title triumph in 2014.

However, they did not make the best of starts after falling behind in the 10th minute.

Smart Osadolor saw a shot saved by Greg Fleming but Darren Ramsay was on hand to sweep in the rebound.

But Peterhead restored parity in the 28th minute when Allan Smith was able to get on the end of a cross to beat Blair Currie.

The second half certainly belonged to the Blue Toon and Jack Leitch fired them in front in the 65th minute with a shot from inside the penalty area.

A stunning goal from Russell McLean two minutes later gave the visitors a cushion, the striker’s effort from distance giving Currie absolutely no chance.

Rory McAllister put the seal on the victory in the 74th minute, netting with a rising shot after Currie had parried out a crossed ball.

The three points moved Peterhead up a place to third in the table, above Stenhousemuir, who were beaten at Elgin.
