Peterhead got off to a winning start in League 2 after scoring two late goals to stun Annan at Galabank.

The Blue Toon had been staring at an opening day defeat after trailing to a first half header from Peter Watson.

But after David McCracken levelled in the closing stages, Jamie Stevenson rifled in a superb stoppage time winner.

A fine way to kick off the league campaign as the Balmoor team attempt to bounce back to Scotland's third tier at the first attempt following relegation.

Annan had a host of new players on show but it was one of their old guard, who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute.

Peterhead partially cleared a corner but when the ball came into the box at the second attempt, Watson headed home to give his team the lead.

Watson nearly scored again when he saw an effort pushed on to the post by Greg Fleming, who then denied the same player with another header seconds after.

At the start of the second half, Jordon Brown tested Jim Atkinson with a well-struck shot but Fleming continued to impress down the other end.

Jim McInally made a triple switch on the hour as Jack Leitch, Russell McLean and Nicky Riley were introduced from the bench.

The latter thought he had levelled in the 78th minute after seeing a shot pushed on to the post by Atkinson.

But Peterhead kept pressing and they were rewarded in the 86th minute when McCracken converted a corner to score for the second game in a row.

A good outcome then turned into a fantastic result thanks to Stevenson's strike in the dying embers.  Stevenson, who like McCracken netted at Elgin last week, unleashed a 30 yard shot, which flew past a helpless Atkinson.
