Rory off as Blue Toon beaten by bottom placed Stenny

Sat 04 Mar 2017

The pressure is building on Peterhead after they were beaten by bottom of the table Stenhousemuir in League 1.

In a nightmare start for the Blue Toon, Stenny were two goals ahead early on thanks to an Alan Cook free-kick and Mason Robertson's header.

Rory McAllister was then sent off for Jim McInally's men, who did manage to half the deficit through a Jordon Brown effort at the start of the second period.

However, Colin McMenamin added a third for the Warriors, which was more than enough to seal victory and move to within two points of Peterhead.

Going into the last quarter of the season, the Aberdeenshire team lie eighth in a congested table, although they are sitting very uncomfortably having played more games than the teams below them.

Another concern is that, for at least one match, they will be without their leading goalscorer McAllister, who was dismissed for foul and abusive language.

Frustration clearly got the better of the 29 year old, with the Blue Toon already facing an uphill battle by the time he was red carded.

Cook, the outstanding player when the teams met at Balmoor on Boxing Day, scored a free-kick in the 10th minute and six minutes later, the visitors fell further behind when Robertson nodded home from a corner.

Hopes of a comeback were dashed when McAllister was sent up the tunnel in the 34th minute for saying something that referee David Munro clearly did not like.

It was not all plain sailing for the basement side though, especially when Brown pulled a goal back two minutes after the restart to score his second goal in as many games.

But veteran striker McMenamin beat Graeme Smith in the 64th minute to ensure there would be no way back for Peterhead, who have taken just one point from their three matches against Stenny this season.
