Peterhead march on with victory at Stenny

Stenhousemuir 1-4 Peterhead
By Glenn Moir

Another display of clinical finishing saw Peterhead power past Stenhousemuir to consolidate second spot in League 1.

Goals from Jamie Stevenson and Leighton McIntosh, either side of Shane Sutherland's double, gave the Blue Toon their latest victory.

Stenny did pull one back through Carlos Martinez and had other opportunities to further cut the deficit.

However, the visitors, minus the suspended Rory McAllister, had already sealed the points by then to right the wrongs of their last visit to Ochilview when they let slip a three goal lead.

Peterhead manager Jim McInally, whose men are now 17 undefeated, said: "I'm happy that we have come away with the win."

"It was not as straightforward as the result might suggest but I thought we looked a confident side and took our goals well."

"We got a bit complacent and sloppy in the second half and conceded too many chances to them, especially in the last 15 minutes."

"It was probably in the back of the everybody's mind what happened the last time down here so the players did well to overcome that."

"It's also pleasing that we have managed to score another four goals, even without Rory."

"We don't make a fuss about suspensions, we just get on with it, knowing that we have a squad of good players capable of winning matches and to go almost the half the season unbeaten is brilliant."

A left foot drive by Stevenson saw Peterhead take a 13th minute lead and then Sutherland scored the first of his goals just before the interval.

Warriors goalkeeper Colin McCabe was fortunate to escape a red card when he floored McIntosh in the 54th minute and Sutherland converted the resultant penalty.

McIntosh soldiered on to score the Blue Toon's fourth midway through the second half before Martinez's late consolation.

So more plaudits for the players, who keep re-writing the script with this remarkable run. Happy days..or is it?

McInally joked: "Graeme Smith came in moaning about our lack of clean sheets!"
