PLAYERS UPDATE

Peterhead bolstered the squad in the push for the play off places, recruiting two players with Premier League experience, both of who started their careers in Kilmarnock. Striker David Cox and Keeper Graeme Smith join up at Balmoor after it was confirmed that Dundee

United would be recalling Keeper Marc McCallum to return to Tannadice after his loan spell with the club.

Jim McInally also confirmed that club Captain Callum MacDonald had sustained a cruciate ligament injury and would be likely to miss the remainder of the season. Ryan Harding has also returned back to Alloa Athletic after his loan spell with the club.

Exciting winger come striker, David Cox has previously played for Kilmarnock, Montrose, Annan Athletic and Alloa Athletic. Cox began his career with Kilmarnock where he made his first team debut, aged 19 on 10 May 2008, in their 2–0 victory over Hearts in the Scottish

Premier League. David made his Peterhead first team debut against Rangers in the two nil defeat; however on his home debut, he picked up the man of the match award from match sponsors RD Buchan and sons in the one nil victory against Clyde at Balmoor.

Graeme Smith started his career with Kilmarnock, joining from their boys club in 2000. He was loaned to Queens Park in the 2001–02 season making 24 appearances in total and then to Stenhousemuir the following season, where he started 34 matches. Smith finally

made his Kilmarnock debut on 7 March 2004, as a substitute during a 1–1 draw with Hearts, going on make 47 appearances in total for the Rugby Park side.

In 2007, Graeme moved to Rangers, making his debut on 23 January 2008 in a 6–0 Scottish Cup win over East Stirlingshire and was in the squads for the 2008 UEFA Cup Final and the 2008 Scottish Cup Final. Graeme departed Ibrox signing for St. Johnstone and

eventually moving to St. Mirren, before becoming a free agent and joining up at Balmoor.

MATCH REPORT

Match report: - Peterhead 1 - 0 Clyde

Robbie Winters hit the only goal of the game as Peterhead climbed to third in the Irn Bru Scottish Third Division with a 1-0 success over struggling Clyde.

Clyde striker Kevin Watt's drilled effort was brilliantly denied by Blue Toon goalkeeper Marc McCallum just before the half-hour mark before Ryan Strachan tested Jamie Barclay from 25 yards at the other end.

Veteran striker Robbie Winters then put Jim McInally's side in front in the final minute of the first half as he nodded David Cox's cross into the bottom left-hand corner from 12 yards.

Scott McLaughlin came close to doubling the lead in the 59th minute but his powerfully-struck drive from 20 yards whistled over the crossbar.

Clyde failed to create any clear-cut chances of an equaliser in the closing stages as they slipped to a fourth successive loss and seven games without a league win.

Peterhead FC supports Show Racism the Red Card's Fortnight of Action 2012

Peterhead FC is delighted to be supporting Show Racism the Red Card's annual Fortnight of Action from 12th to the 31st October. The Fortnight of Action will again make a stand against both racism and sectarianism. We both believe that it is vital to highlight the anti-sectarian message as well as the anti-racism message at this time, especially when recent incidents have once again highlighted the problem of sectarianism within our communities.

At every SFL fixture this weekend, clubs will be united in calling for an end to racism and sectarianism in football and in society. Players in over 40 European countries are involved in similar events as part of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network against racism and discrimination. Peterhead Football Club will demonstrate our support and stand against both racism and sectarianism at our home match versus Stirling Albion on the 27th of October.

Show Racism the Red Card has received excellent support from football clubs, football authorities and football dans the length and breadth of Scotland. It has not been without its challenges though and they urge fans to continue to support the anti-racism and anti-sectarianism messages. They have many instances where real supporters are proactive in promoting the anti-racism and anti-sectarianism messages in and around their club, making it clear the racist/sectarian fans are not welcome at their club.

Peterhead Football Club's Fortnight of Action Ambassador, club captain Callum Macdonald, said:

"It is very important for the club to be involved with this long standing initiative; Peterhead Football Club is a family friendly club and a great environment to watch football and it is clear from the club's code of conduct for players, staff and supporters that discrimination on any level will not be tolerated. The whole squad is behind the fortnight of action and we are asking that supporters play their part by reporting stewards or club officials when they see or hear any unacceptable behaviour."

The campaign will continue to speak to all football clubs, the football authorities and the police aiming to eradicate all forms of racist and sectarian behaviour. The SFL and its clubs deplore all forms of racism and sectarianism and any racist or sectarian behaviour will not be tolerated at SFL Fixtures.

Here is a brief outline of what is taking place during the fortnight of action this year:

  • ANTI-RACIST / ANTI-SECTARIAN FOOTBALL FESTIVALS & PROJECTS ACROSS SCOTLAND
  • SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD ACTIONS AT CLYDESDALE BANK PREMIER LEAGUE, SFL, SCOTTISH WOMEN'S PREMIER LEAGUE, SCOTTISH WOMEN'S FOOTBALL LEAGUE & SCOTTISH CUP 3RD ROUND MATCHES
  • 'UNITE AGAINST RACISM ACTIONS'  AT UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIXTURES
  • EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS IN SCHOOLS & COMMUNITY GROUPS ACROSS SCOTLAND

Football is a sport that is followed by people across the world, and football matches should be an enjoyable experience for all, whatever their racial or religious background. We all have a part to play in stamping out racism and sectarianism in football and society.

If you see or hear racism or sectarianism at any level of football, please report it to stewards or police. Our website also includes updates on Fortnight of Action events and more information on the Show Racism the Red Card campaign in Scotland. www.theredcardscotland.org
