Daily Record

Contrary to the article in the Daily Record today we have not signed or even entered talks with the player Gordon Dick.

In conjunction with the Peterhead Running Festival sponsored by Shell, Peterhead FC are holding an open day at Balmoor Stadium on 30th June 2013.

Events in and around the club begin at 10am and teas/coffees/refreshments will be available throughout the day. Jim McInally and his players commence their pre-season training programme in Catto Park just after lunch time and will be available to meet the fans after the session. Free of charge stadium tours will also be held throughout the afternoon.

Season tickets will be on sale throughout the day with a full list of prices available at www.peterheadfc.com. Peterhead FC also hope to unveil their new strip for the forthcoming season which will also be on sale.

Heres hoping the sun shines on what promises to be a busy day at Balmoor.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to make a short statement in the wake of taking the decision to move on from Peterhead Football Club. I do this with a great deal of sadness having spent so many fantastic years at the club. I have had a few discussions with Jim McInally since the end of last season and I just feel that at this stage of my career, with plenty still to offer playing wise, it’s the right time to move on.

Jim has been very supportive and fantastic throughout this and in Jim, Peterhead have a great manager and person in charge at the club and I have absolutely no doubt that he will put Peterhead where they deserve to be, starting with promotion from the 3rd division.

I’d like to also express my deepest thanks to everyone at the club for everything that they have done for me through the years, Roger Morrison, Ian Grant, Harry Fraser and the directors of the club, Jim, Craig, Davie and Scott on the management side, Jock and Stan, Greg Smith, all the players I’ve played with through the years, all the Managers that I’ve had and last but certainly not least all the supporters who have been really really great towards me over the years. I certainly hope I haven’t missed anyone in the above but there are really too many to mention.

All that is left is for me to wish you all the best of luck for the future and I’m sure I’ll see you in the coming weeks, months and years.

Thanks again,

Martin”

Midfielder Ryan McCann and striker Andy Rodgers have agreed one year deals with the Bloo Toon. Manager Jim McInally said 'I am delighted that Ryan and Andy have agreed to stay with us and that completes the bulk of last years squad who lost so narrowly on promotion. We now have a squad of 18 players committed to the cause for the forthcoming season. I am of course interested in bringing in new players to freshen things up but we have to be patient and wait for the right players to be available'.

Pre-season commences on Wednesday 26th June.

We have now updated our fixture list for the new season. You will find this under matches then into fixture 2013/2014.

The tough tackling midfielder had been considering other offers but decided to stay and help the Bloo Toon in their quest to gain promotion next season. Manager Jim McInally has also agreed a new deal with ex Northern Ireland midfielder Bryan Gilfillan. Bryan was offered an attractive deal from Annan Athletic but has chosen to stay with Peterhead. The squad is shaping up nicely and it is anticipated pre-season training will commence on 26th July.

The SFL have voted 23/6 in favour of one league body (SPFL) at today's meeting in the National Stadium. Squad for 2013-14

Jim McInally has been busy over the last 2 weeks securing deals for 9 players from his existing squad which came so painfully close to promotion last season. Dean Cowie, David Cox, Steven Noble, Paul Jarvie, Jamie Redman, Scott Ross, Graeme Sharp, Graeme Smith and Ryan Strachan have all agreed new deals which keeps them at Balmoor next season. Martin Bavidge and Callum Mac Donald return from holiday this week and will also be offered new deals. Add to this leading goalscorer Rory McAllister and local lads Jamie Beagrie and P A Bruce who have aready penned deals for next season and the squad for 2013-14 is looking really strong.

Jim said `I am proud of what the boys achieved last season and am delighted that I will be able to keep the bulk of the squad for the forthcoming campaign. We aim to start pre-season training in mid June and already have most of our friendly matches arranged. It was with great sadness to hear of the deaths of Falconer and Ken.

Falconer was a popular full back who starred for the Bloo Toon in the late 70s. He was part of the side that won succesive Qualifying Cups in 1977 and 1978.

Ken was a stalwart supporter who was also a member of the Executive Club.

Both will be sorely missed and the Chairman, Board of Directors and all at Peterhead FC pass on our sincere condolensces to the familes.

An Andy Rodgers penalty in injury time gave Peterhead a 1-0 advantage over Queens Park in this play-off semi final first leg. Queens failed to clear a Steven Noble free kick properly and when Spittal slid in on substitute Rodgers the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Rodgers made no mistake with virtually the last kick of the game.

Whilst Queens had the bulk of possession and passed the ball well it was the Bloo Toon side who looked more threatening. Rory McAllister who came off injured later in the game came close with two efforts midway through the first half. Neil Parry in the home goals producing two good saves. Rodgers made an immediate impact on replacing McAllister with his lob hitting the bar.

A great win for Peterhead at the National Stadium and now a record 9 wins in a row with only one goal conceded. All to play for on Saturday.

A large crowd is expected on Saturday ( 3pm kick off )   It is recommended that fans turn up early.

The Second Division play-off game at Hampden Park, Glasgow on Wednesday 8th May kicks off at 7.30pm.

Match Report Impressive Peterhead cruise Bryan Gilfillan scored his fifth goal of the campaign as Peterhead clinched second spot with a 3-0 win over play-off opponents Queen's Park. The visitors went ahead in the 21st minute when Gilfillan latched onto David Cox's cross to head past Queen's Park stopper Blair Lochhead from close range. The Spiders pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the first half but they could not find a way past Graeme Smith in Peterhead's net. The Blue Toon doubled their lead seven minutes after the re-start when Andrew Rodgers drilled in from 12 yards. Jim McInally's men completed the rout in the 79th minute when Dean Cowie found the top left of Lochhead's goal from 20 yards. From SFL website.

Statement

The planned reconstruction of Scottish football has created many column inches of newspaper editorial and media coverage, much of which has been sensational, some of which has been sensible and as per usual much of which has been nonsense. We would therefore like to clarify our stance on these new proposals following the debate which took place at Hampden on 28th March.

Our previous meetings with our SFL colleagues regarding these proposals had been positive. We all felt that change was required and the time was upon us to deliver a new, more collective approach to the administration of our game. The SFL had put together a package of changes which had been presented to the SPL; the SPL agreed that changed was required but countered with their own proposal.

This new SPL package was debated and although it was far from a perfect solution it did deliver the key areas for change:

  • 1 Governing Body
  • Redistribution of finance
  • Healthy promotion, relegation and play-off system
  • Pyramid system allowing for future growth.

A vote was taken at a previous meeting and the result was 28-1 in favour of progressing the SPL Package to the next stage.

We reconvened on Thursday to further discuss the details of the planned changes.

Governance issues, due–diligence problems and timescales were all covered. These areas, we agree are incredibly important and every care should be taken to ensure that all parties are safeguarded and we create a governing body not just for the short-term but for our long term future. The main concern from some of the SFL members was the timescale factor which was discussed at length. However the end result of this over-zealous procrastination now has the potential to de-rail all our previous progress and create divisions when we had unanimity.

At the end of our meeting we again took an indicative “vote” for the Implementation of the SPL package at the beginning of next season. This time the result was 14/14. The main reason given for the change in mind of majority of clubs was the timescale.

We accept the rational and agree that timescales are difficult and in other circumstances many of the reasons against change would be compelling. Indeed in business we would not consider a take it or leave it proposal as has been presented by the SPL, but the alternatives are grim.

Clubs in the 2nd/3rd Division have nothing to gain financially in the short term from “Reconstruction”, but we, as a club must look at the wider picture and judge what is best for the future of our national game. If we risk a situation whereby the 1st Division Clubs move to join the SPL then it would spell disaster and the opportunity to form one association to drive Scottish Football forward would be lost. The clubs that would remain would become a forgotten entity by media, sponsors and fans alike and stifle ambitious clubs such as ourselves in making progress up the ladder.

Therefore, on behalf of the board of Peterhead Football Club we would like to urge Neil Doncaster and David Longmuir to meet further to discuss lingering doubts and allay the doubts of those members who are concerned over the timescale of these proposals. We would also like to urge our fellow members of the SFL who voted against the reconstruction and unified governing body plans to please reconsider their position of requesting a further season of deliberations.

In the past year our leadership within the SFL over the Rangers saga and league reconstruction has been faultless, now is the time to stand together and take this opportunity to revitalise our game and not give the SPL the option of walking away from these proposals due to a divided SFL and all the negative repercussions that will follow from that.

Major change and especially football change, require a leap of faith by all parties concerned, status quo is not an option beyond this season if we are to bring excitement and competition back to our game
