Loan star Lawrence tipped to make his Marc

Wed 20 Jan 2016

Marc Lawrence is due to return to Peterhead at the end of the month after a successful loan stint with former Highland League rivals Fraserburgh.

The 17 year old midfielder has gained valuable experience with the Broch, racking up more than 20 appearances.

Lawrence, who helped Fraserburgh retain the Aberdeenshire Cup in October, has scored seven times including a Scottish Cup goal at Falkirk.

The Ellon-based teenager has impressed Bellslea manager Mark Cowie, who believes Lawrence has the right ingredients in his game to make the step up.

Cowie told Waves Radio Sport: “Marc is a very talented young lad for being 17 and his attitude is the main thing.”

“It’s a lot different to that of players of the same age bracket. Marc is focussed on progressing in football and I have no doubt he will play at a higher level.”

Cowie, older brother of former Peterhead favourite Dean, has selected the Blue Toon rookie for the bulk of his team’s games this season.

He added: “I did not know too much about Marc when he first came to Fraserburgh."

"We heard he was available and because he was on the books of Peterhead, thought he had to be of a decent standard.”

“We asked Jim Mcinally if we could have him and he agreed to that, knowing Marc would learn by getting game time.”

“He’s certainly had that with us and has played in the majority of our matches this season.”

Cowie continued: “Jim is keen to take him back, which is credit to us and to Marc. I think it shows how much he has come on in the last few months. “

“He deserves a crack at a higher standard with Peterhead and when he leaves us, he will go with our best wishes.”

“Marc is certainly one for the future and I have no doubt if he continues to progress, and with his attitude, he will play at a good level.”
