Ally G gaining vital experience with Peterhead

Tue 06 Oct 2015

On loan St Johnstone defender Ally Gilchrist is loving life at Peterhead and is determined to return to his parent club an improved player in January.
The 20 year old is in the midst of a six month stint with the Blue Toon, gaining valuable experience as he bids to catch the eye of his manager Tommy Wright.
Gilchrist, who was farmed out to Elgin last season, said: "Tommy has been keeping an eye on how I have been doing and he's been in touch with the gaffer here so he is keeping tabs on me."
"I'm really enjoying it at Peterhead.  I'm still young and I have got experienced players around me that are really good to play with and they keep me right."
"The likes of Graeme Smith in goal and Steven Noble and Ryan Strachan in defence help me learn."
Gilchrist has been a mainstay in the Blue Toon line-up this term and the left-sided central defender hopes to keep his place when Stenhousemuir visit Balmoor this weekend in the Petrofac Training Cup quarter final.
Jim McInally's men caused a stir by knocking out Championship side Falkirk 5-3 in the last round, a tie in which Rory McAllister stole the show by netting all of Peterhead's goals.
Gilchrist said: "It's a great opportunity for us after beating Falkirk, which was a great result."
"We just need to get back to basics and if we do the right things in the game, hopefully we can get a win against Stenhousemuir."
