Blue Toon bidding to reel in Ayr

Fri 18 Dec 2015

Peterhead entertain second top Ayr Utd in League 1 on Saturday, aiming to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

The Blue Toon trail Ian McCall’s team by 11 points but boss Jim McInally insists they can still be caught.

McInally said: “We are currently 11 points ahead of Brechin, who are at the bottom, and you are never quite sure you are safe from relegation.”

“So with that same mindset, you are as well saying you can go and catch Ayr Utd. “

“You have certainly got to try and if we beat them on Saturday, the gap is down to eight points and it looks possible.”

“Ayr have had a terrific start but they could hit a sticky patch at some point and if they do, we have to take advantage of that.”

Concussion meant Ally Gilchrist was replaced early at Brechin last week. Therefore the on loan St Johnstone defender could miss out. Otherwise, McInally has a fully-fit squad to pick from.
