Peterhead bid to kickstart league form

Thu 19 Nov 2015

Peterhead entertain Cowdenbeath this weekend bidding to get their League 1 form back on track after just one win from their last 11 matches.

Having already taken four points off Dunfermline and upsetting Falkirk on route to reaching the Petrofac Training Cup final, the Blue Toon have saved their best performances for the big occasions.

But they have struggled to find that same level when coming up against fellow part-time clubs, which has frustrated manager Jim McInally.

The Balmoor boss said: "When we are playing the Dunfermlines of this world and cup ties, everything is great but we need to start churning it out regularly against teams at our level."

Seven points from their first three fixtures saw Peterhead make a flying start to the campaign but they have added just nine since then with draws hindering their progress.

They shared the spoils with Cowdenbeath at Central Park in September, Greig Spence hauling the hosts level despite Peterhead's numerical advantage following the dismissal of Mo Yaqub.

Rory McAllister and Shane Sutherland were on the scoresheet for the Blue Toon that day.  McAllister has maintained his own form and netted again in Tuesday's draw with Stranraer to take his tally of goals to 19 in all competitions.

Despite their problem turning draws into wins, Peterhead remain on the coattails of the teams occupying the play-off positions.  Three points on Saturday would move them closer.
