PETERHEAD 3-0 RAITH ROVERS
By Glenn Moir

Part-time versus full-time, League 2 up against League 1.

It might have pointed to an away win before kick off.

But given Peterhead’s excellent home record in the knock-out competitions, it was not a big surprise that they dumped Raith Rovers out of the Scottish Cup.

The Blue Toon made it five out of five at Balmoor this season, with a commanding and fully-deserved 3-0 win.

Jordon Brown scored his first goal of the season with a superb header before Rory McAllister helped himself to a double.

This was after Peterhead had dominated the first period, aided by the wind, racking up 10 corners, some of which resulted in headers missing the target.

Greg Fleming did have one important save to make just after the re-start, foiling Jonathon Court from close range after Liam Buchanan’s initial shot was blocked.

But that was the only uncomfortable moment from a home perspective and when Jim McInally’s men did make the breakthrough in the 55th minute, a home win seemed inevitable.

Jamie Stevenson clipped in a cross from the right and Brown, on as a first half sub for the injured Simon Ferry, rose eight yards out to nod past former team-mate Graeme Smith.

Two minutes later, Brown picked out McAllister, who got in behind the Raith defence to bury a shot inside the far post.

There were further opportunities for the hosts to extend their lead with the front two, Russell McLean and McAllister, a constant threat and the latter netted a sublime solo effort with five minutes remaining.

Peterhead broke rapidly from a corner and McAllister ran from the half-way line down the left channel. There were options for the striker to pass but he opted to go alone, skipping past Jamie Watson and smashing an angled left foot drive into the top corner.

The Blue Toon safely into round four and they will learn their next opponents on Monday.
