Under 19s: Livingston 5 Peterhead 1

Wed 23 Nov 2011

Peterhead under 19’s team travelled again to West Lothian on Sunday to play their delayed match in the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup. The match on the 13th had been delayed previously when the Peterhead under 19’s bus broke down on the journey down to West Lothian.

Unfortunately the Peterhead young guns exited out of the competition against a very good Livingston under 17’s side, the young Livi lions have only been defeated once this season. Peterhead under 19’s team had comfortably defeated the Broch in the previous round three nil but Livingston was a different proposition.

The sides met at Albyn Park in Broxburn and home advantage told with Livingston running out 5-1 winners. There was no disgrace for the young Peterhead team who delivered a spirited display.

Peterhead went in front on twelve minutes and a shock looked on the cards, however the Peterhead resistance was broken on 28 minutes with a low angled shot from the edge of the box. Livingston took the lead 6 minutes later when a speculative effort from Gray from distance beat the Blue Toon keeper.

Livingston stepped up a gear in the second half and Livingston’s Gray added his second and third goals of the match on 47 and 69 minutes. The scoring was completed in 74 minutes but the match was a valuable learning experience for the young Buchan side.
